Worth Every Dime December 14, 2008 I installed this unit in my Honda Civic and have been enjoying it for a month now. I had to buy (ebay) an adapter (around $50)that hooks into the CD changer slot in the back of my factory radio. Forget the FM adapters as they will degrade the sound quality. If your factory or other radio has an AUX input (with RCA connectors) in the back you won't even need the adapter. The unit mimics the Ipod control wheel to a large extent. You can't listen to audio podcasts or hear the audio portion of videos but that is a nit. If you are afraid of taking apart your dash to get at your radio you might weigh the cost of professional installation. The (black and white)display on the unit is easy to read, even in daylight. The control knob thingy works well (mine squeeks a little but no biggy). The newer model of this unit admittedly is nicer but for the money this thing can't be beat. With my Ipod Classic and the Harmon Kardon unit in my car I have access to my entire music collection.
great price for an exceptional item!! November 14, 2008 grrrrreat!!!!! love it works perfectly. easy to install and use. could not ask for more even a retard could figure it out!!!!
great product for the pice November 12, 2008 After looking up some instructions online, my husband installed this no problem in my 2004 Mazda 6 for my ipod. The hardest part was taking apart the console etc. Only one hole drilled - in the bottom of my console storage to plug the unit in. All other wires are run inside the console area or just outside of the ash tray and glove box (for the screen and knob).
The ergonomics are great, and it gives you access to pretty much everything you'd want from the ipod screen. The only bad thing is that the screen is just 2-color so no pretty album cover image, and also it just displays the song and artist (not album) - though you can choose by album from the menu. But since I paid less than $20 for this, not bad at all.
FYI, it plugs into the port, not the headphone jack, so it does charge the ipod. One weird thing I noticed - this does seem to be much better reception wise than my Griffin FM transmitter, but the one odd thing I've noticed is that S-es seem extra hissy on every song. Not sure what that's about, but a small complaint. All in all, a great product!
worked a little over a year and then nothing... November 2, 2008 While it was working, this was a good product. I liked that you could change display from glaring bright to inverse so that driving at night was not quite to hard to do. After a little over a year of being used every other day though, the component no longer recognizes that an iPod is connected. I've tried every iPod I own and nothing works. Harman/Kardon offers no individual parts for this unit on their website, so I cannot check to see if it is the cord or the unit. Was a Christmas gift from my boyfriend and I don't have the heart to tell him that it has died already. I would not purchase it again.
Best IPOD device ever August 16, 2008 Im gonna keep this short This is a nice product that everyone should have if they own an ipod and likes to listen to his/her own tunes. it allows you to keep ur eye on the road while driving. ive bought one for myself and another for my friend and they are very easy to install and has enough cable so you can run them around your car under mats so it can be hidden. to things of advice. if you plan on getting this make sure you have a location where you can place the remote. the remote should sit where the cup holder is it is about a 3 x3 inch space. my friend hd an issue where he had no space so we placed it on a platform inside his cup holder. the only problem i have with this thing is that it does not allow you to have the EXACT ipod feel. by this i mean when you go thru ur ipod and select an artist there is they "ALL" tab so that you can play all the songs under one artist. however this gets rid of it so if there ar multiple albums under an artist you only can play one album. other than that this product is exactly like an ipod. I love it i do recomend getting this one or even better if you want a gps get the upgraded version where you can play videos theres a touch screen it has gps and everything. but this is a cheap one
